Proper Car Maintenance Reduces Large Repairs

If you own a car, you know the importance of proper maintenance to keep it running smoothly. Bringing the car to the shop at the first sign of trouble can stop a small issue from becoming a large one. For instance, a small squeak in the brakes could mean that it is time for a new pair of pads or shoes, which are relatively inexpensive.

However, if you allow the issue to linger for weeks or months after you hear that noise, you may have to replace the rotors as they may become scored. This could cost several hundreds of dollars to fix even for a basic replacement job. The same thing could happen if you don't regularly change the oil in your vehicle.

Bringing in your vehicle for an oil change every six months or 7,500 miles on average ensures that engine parts are properly lubricated with clean oil. If you fail to do this, the oil could gunk up the engine and cause it to seize. An oil change generally costs $20 while a new engine could cost $3,000 or more. Furthermore, you could risk voiding any warranty or service agreement that the car may have had.

Taking your car in for regular maintenance or for a checkup at the first sign of trouble is an easy step to keep your car in good shape for many years. Doing so ensures that minor issues can be fixed before they become expensive headaches.
