2 Signs You Need To Have Your Car’s Brakes Checked

The braking system is one of the most crucial parts of your vehicle. If you can’t easily stop your car, you’re at risk of crashing into another vehicle or an object. That’s why it’s important to ensure that your car’s braking system is always in top condition.

Here are two signs that you may have to bring your car to an auto repair shop in Virginia Beach to have the brakes checked.

Worn Out Brake Pads

Together with the rotor, pads are responsible for creating a friction that stops the vehicle. However, pads usually wear out over time, and when they do, they will no longer be efficient in stopping or slowing your car. To check the condition of the pads, you just have to take a look between the spokes of the wheel. Once you see the metal rotor, find the metal caliper around the outer edge. There in the middle you’ll spot the pad. Normal pads have a thickness of one-quarter of an inch. If they look thinner, then that’s an indication that you need to replace them. If you can’t see the pads, ask a professional to take a look.

Pulling

If your car feels like it’s about to go right or left when hitting the brakes, then there’s definitely a problem. This pulling sensation could have been caused by a stuck caliper or a broken brake hose. Whatever the cause is though, you need to have it checked immediately because driving a pulling car can be difficult and dangerous.

These are only two signs of brake problems. To avoid these and others, you may want to have your brakes checked every six months.
